My second Spring.

I am just starting on my second watering since Christmas Day. Pretty good, hey ? My Ramblers have thought it was Spring again. Actually, they didn't bloomed in Spring hardly because of the dryness. The Alberic Barbier is blooming really for the first time and is so pretty. Well it might have bloomed a little bit before but the blooms weren't much, but they are now !
The grass has gone crazy and I am working at getting that under control.

This is the highest I have seen my creek back when we had the 8 inches after Christmas.

Karen they have grown beautifully since Carole and Dave and I were there before Christmas. Amazing what some good rain will do. Fantastic pictures

Great blooms, can't wait to accept your invitation to visit next spring when they should be that little more mature and producing more blooms.

The pictures look great.

We have had so much rain up here. Every time something starts to flower it pours rain and we loose it. I think the only ones flowering at present are Pinkie and Phylis Byde.

We actually have had a couple of "disasters' from the rain. Our huge Marie Van Houte collpased and we have had to cut it back. It is shooting however.

A couple of the BR Cants have collaped on their arches (they proably did need cutting back a bit anyway so that has not bee too bad).

We have also lost a couple of teas from the wet.

Surprisingly some of the roses are growing ok even though they are more or less sitting in water the soil is so wet. Salvias and other perenials (even yarrow) have died around them but the roses are hanging on (most survived the last time it got this wet so I expect them to keep going). The soil is reasonably sandy down there so they do not appear to feel it.

It is sunny outside at present but we get about 20mm or so each day/night. After the 300mm or so we recieved a couple of weeks ago the ground just does not dry out. I have promised myself to put some ag drains in durng winter this year (as I have promised for the last few years).

I too, was immediately drawn to "Teasing Georgia" (what a stunner!!!) but all of the roses are beautiful!

It would be difficult to ignore "Parade" even if one was not a rose fan & the dahlia shape (???) of "The Pilgrim" is very impressive!

David, I am so sorry, I didn't see your post here the other day. I must need glasses.
Balinbear, I hope your roses get it a bit less wet soon.

Last weekend I won Best exhibit at The Gulgong Show with a Flagstaff rose. Also I got first for best container of roses, and second for a pink rose. I will post photos of them tomorrow, although I didn't think to take the photos when I first left them but on the next day when I saw how I had went at showing my roses for the first time.

Karen, congratulations on your show success, couldn't have happened to a nicer girl.

Could be a good time to follow up with a couple of nice vases of roses placed in busy areas like McDonalds. Attach a card , "Roses courtesy of Rosemeadow Roses" then your phone number.

However you could go and hide in the roses and enjoy those beautiful blooms all by yourself and hope no one finds you.

Congratulations

It is still raining here. The rain gauage was full on Saturday morning when I emptied it and have had another 75mm over the weekend. Its raining at the moment (it has been since about 7 last night) and the wether people say that the "showers" we are having at present (I'm sure they never look out the window) should get heavier through the day and have predicted rain with heavy falls for the next couple of days.

The roses are hanging in there but I spent the weekend out in the "showers" doing cuttings of the perenials so i don't loose them all.

I did some rose cuttings for the bushfire victims a couple of months ago but they are stuggelling with the excessive wet. I did them in sand cause of the time of year and they were mostly Comtesse de Labarthe which usually strikes like a wharfie up here but out of 100 I only have about 50 or so left so I am a bit disapointed with that result. I will probaly loose a couple more but 40 or 50 should go a fair way.

Thanks Ozeboy and Ballinbear, there wasn't alot of competition, and no one else had old fashioned or shrub roses other than me. Here are some photos from the show.

I think this was Flagstaff, I didn't really take special note when I cut them early that morning. The lady receiving the roses on the day said latter that they could smell the fragrance of that rose all day.


I should have photographed these roses the morning I entered them. I will next time.

This was the portrait that my middle daughter did of my youngest daughter to enter in the show. In the section, Portrait taken by under 16, she got 1st prize.


Great idea Ballinbear, taking the cuttings of your perrinials, incase the ones in the ground completely die.
