Re: 'heather roses' 2010
and thank you for your comments.David, this rose has germinated in the spring 2009.
I kept it, although it has not bloomed in the 1st year and I also found a place for it in the garden, although the place is limited.
So maybe the two things you need as beeder mostly are a good portion of luck and inspiration as well as 'a good eye'.
You can begin to select the rose seedling stll when they are very small. The good one are still eye catchers !
Simon did it from a pic:

have a nice weekend

Re: 'heather roses' 2010
that's a difficult question, because it is very hot this sommer and the rose seems to bloom continously. Assume that it is one of the last from the first flowering

I wouldn't mind some of that heat now... it's cold and wet and windy here atm...
Re: 'heather roses' 2010
Well done, Bemo. It looks stunning. Can you send more close up photos.

Of course. In the 'Field of dreams' you schould not miss a sexy lady . She just started to bloom.
it's an open pollination of 'NDR1.....'
the next one could become a 'burner', it's the first flower of this 2010 bred OP of 'Bonica', enjoy the recently shot pic
I've never expected a white rose from this plant, as all before showed pink tones.
whish you all a nice weekend

I'm so stupid.... did no study the ancestors of Bonica. The seed parent 'Rosa sempervirens L. × Mademoiselle Marthe Carron' are both white
cheers

Re: 'heather roses' 2010
Yeah... but white is strange 'colour' in roses Bernhard. It's like a masking colour, like a coloured rose in a white coat. Gennetically they breed like the coloured rose but have another gene (or set of genes) that over rule these and prevent the expression of any pigment. That's what's happening with 'Iceberg'.... it's a coloured rose under all that white. So this is interesting... whites bred 'Bonica' which is pink but not all whites are like this... must be carrying this masking gene... to have it come out again now... or something like that
