Ozroz it would appear you have made a major break through and this is good news. Its starting look like the situation with many of our entertainers, scientists, inventors etc. That is you have to go overseas to make a name for yourself. A shame but a fact of life.

I have Acervate - a polyantha bred in Landsborough, Qld. I have several contenders for Penelope Tea 1906, Rob Lassig's roses from Bundaberg Qld - not registered. Brisbane Blush is a great rose. Kathleen Kellahan is a just great. I have mini called Citrus Garden which I cannot work out what its parentage might be. White Maman Cochet is a sport I think. I have Lenny a new mini by Paul Hains. I don't use Sudden Impact and prefer local organic products which I think do just as well. We have so many flushes in Qld, many more flushes are possible here as the winter period is much shorter. Only 28 degrees today and most pleasant in the mountain air every night.

Today my friend Ian showed me a sport of Melbourne Town (Chapman) that developed in his garden. Tomorrow the African Queen is going to bud it from a very limited amount of budwood. Let's hope the buds take as on what I saw the rose will be quite a stunner on the show bench.

Last year my friend Ian purchased four Flemington Racecourse (Chapman) rose from Ross Roses and when they arrived he was concerned about the size of the bare rooted plants. I explained they were yearling roses and if looked after they would turn out just as good as bare rooted 2yr old roses that are sold. As I had a similar experience with two Marilyn Monroe roses from Treloars some years back and they have turned to be two of the biggest and healthiest rose in my garden. He was a little sceptical at the time but now he has no reservations about year old roses. If you look at the photo you will see why. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Thanks Paul, the sport looks good, in the shot it appears that it 'might' get burnt on the edges in the heat or is the brown something else.
The photo above, are they standards or very large bushes, the stakes have me confused Willy

The discolouring is more than likely the onset of botrytis.

The plants of Flemington Racecourse are bushes not standards and the fence at the back is 5ft tall. The bushes were planted straight into the ground as extremely small bare rooted bushes in August 2011.

My friend Ian and his wife joined the Rose Society of NSW a few years back and immediately became interested in exhibiting. To be a successful exhibitor you need to grow a certain quality of bloom which is well above the quality of the average garden bloom. Knowing this Ian spent a lot of time gaining information from the present crop of top exhibitors as well as being exposed to information available to rose society members through publications, talks, demonstrations, seminars etc. As a result of this Ian is now able to grow roses such as the Flemington Racecourse roses shown in an earlier post. The moral to this story is if you want to grow bushes that produce show class roses join a rose society.

Thanks Warren. I think what you had Dave is called a senior's moment. As I approach seventy they are becoming more of a part of my life.
