What a load of horse sh*t !!

Post by wedge on 19th December 2009, 12:47

Sorry about the caption guys but it was the best one i could find to suit the topic !! Hehehe. As mentioned on earlier posts, i have access to just about an unlimited supply of horse manure. I got a 7X4 trailer load about 3 months ago and i was getting low. As it's 60km round trip to go and get the manure from where my daughter works, i decided this time to make "hungry boards" for my trailer. It took 3 of us working flat out for about 40 mins to fill the trailer. The owner of the property where i get it from reckoned there was at least 1/2 tonne of manure in the trailer by the time we finished. The poor old trailer struggled all the way home !! This morning it took me about 3hrs to unload it. I don't know what you guys are having for Chrissy dinner but i know what my roses are having !! roflmao

Same to you Rosemeadow. I hope you have a relaxing time over Xmas and i hope Santa looks after you. I was given some David Austin roses from my daughter that i was hoping you (the guru of rose identification!!) may have identified for me. They are now flowering all but one and it's not far away too.

Careful Wedge, it can get very hot if piled up deep. Bemo could benefit from a 12" layer to keep his rose roots warm. It's used a lot in Europe mainly for warmth but in tropical Qld 6 to 12" thick in summer be very careful.
Try to get some local information from some of the experts up there.

Hi Ozeboy. I only apply it thin, about 25 - 30mm thick. I like to keep it moist as it breaks down quicker. I brought it home in the trailer as you can see in the photos and unloaded it the next morning. As i dug it out of the trailer the inside of the pile was so hot you couldn't put your hand inside it even tho it was well rotted down. Yes mate, steady steady is the go when using the stuff.

Wedge, I knew you had a green thumb and a lot of common sense. Speaking of common sense it's not very common these days.

Merry Christmas to you, your wife and family once again.

Wedge, we can all have a go here. Jenny would be the one to ask. I have her email address if you would like ? Rita here is also a real David Austin expert. Thanks for the Christmas wishes.

Hi Rosemeadow. Well, i solved one of the mysteries today. We went up to our daughter's place today for Xmas dinner and my son in law gave me one of the tags that came off these roses. By the tag one of them is Mary Rose. I have a fair idea which one it is but strangely enough it produced 2 different coloured flowers over the last few days. One was pink like Mary Rose but the other was a deep red single. I smelt something fishy so i followed the cane down and it had started from the understock. I thought...i've seen that flower somewhere before and then it hit me. I saw it while i was with you and Carole and Dave. It's Dr. Huey !! When i can i'll PM you and send you some photos of the flowers. I hope you had a lovely Xmas day.
