Oh, now I see where it is. The garden looked so bare in the first pic that I couldn't work it out.

Looks gorgeous, thee.

Is that pierre de Ronsard behind it?

Hey, I must be learning.........imagine me starting to recognise them by myself...

I have put two of them in Thee, one to climb on a fence and one to train as around a post. Not quite sure how i'll go with that, with the canes being so thick, but i'll try to bend them early and see how it works.

I first fell in love with Pierre in Dee's garden. She has a magnificent one close to the house on a verandah post.

That looks lovely,Thee. Did it take long to grow to that height? Does it flower for as long as de Ronsard?

Re: Golden Showers

Here in NW Tas Abbi, 'Red Pierre' has been pretty much a dud. It doesn't seem to flower all year like PDR (I cut the last flowers off mine yesterday) and the flowers fail to open properly often ending up in a mouldy soggy mess. I'm actually going to dig mine up and sell it (or maybe just move it somewhere with more air movement and sun) and replace it with 'Lamarque' (...and 'Climbing Peace' is going to be dug up and sold to be replaced with 'Souvenir de MME Leonie Viennot'). The naming of 'Red Pierre' often has people thinking it is related to PDR. PDR is not, however, anywhere in its pedigree and it resembles it in form only. PDR is a far superior rose down here I reckon. 'Red Pierre' is a lovely rose for warmer places I think.

Why did you tell Abbi Red Pierre is a dud Simon? I'm trying to fob mine off onto her. Now she won't want it. Evil or Very Mad Laughing

I have planted RPdR in the ongoing climbing rose bed here in warm/hot summer Mudgee, mine should go well. If this thread keeps going we might move it to a new one called "the good and bad of RPdR Very Happy .

....but now you're SPRUNG... Very Happy

Simon would be warmer than here............hmmmmm. Maybe it will be a dud here too, but i need practise at planting and replanting .....I'll take it. Laughing

Thanks for the info about RP, Simon, I did think it was related to PdR. Why do they name them like that.....to confuse novices like Abbi? scratch

I've decided to try any of Dee's rejects, just to be sure they're no good before they're culled........who knows, maybe there will be one that will like my place.

Just as soon as mr A finishes the fence that will keep out wallabies and possums....then there'll be no stopping me. bounce

Bruce, I have recently purchased a "Golden Showers" so have not seen it flower yet. In your post do you mean as you say grow all year or flower all year. I have only seen Thee's pix and like all this type of rose it is asleep at this time of year and she did show what it is like in flower. If you have seen somewhere that it does flower all year can you give me the reference so I can have look.

I would like a Golden Showers that looked as healthy as that, unfortunatly it doesn't happen here. September, October might look good but after that will look like it should be dug up and dumped.

My rose life hasn't always been like this, lived in Orange for a number of years and had very healthy roses.
