Hi from Launceston

Post by Ripley on 3rd June 2009, 07:27

Hi everyone
*sigh* a rose forum where everyone loves talking about roses...heaven!

Thanks to TasV for having the link in your sig on BYP.

Im from Launceston in Tassie. I work in a garden centre which is a great job, especially since I got to choose our rose order this year Very Happy I am not a rosarian by any standards but I do love them and noone else at work likes roses (I know...weird). The customers usually get directed to me with rosey type questions because of this, so I get to chat about roses as well, always learning something new.

I love old fashions and DAs. Just yesterday I got Mme Hardy, Belle Isis and Summer Song. Im starting a new garden soon ( moving at the end of this week cheers ) so hopefully will be able to contribute some photos in spring/summer of my progress and get lots of suggestions and help.

Hey Ripley, good to see you here. We're 'collecting' a few Tasmaniacs on here now... we're up to 5 now I think. Great to see and I'm glad there is a rose enthusiast in charge of rose ordering at a garden centre down here! An an old rose fan at that! Sounds very promising for Tassie roses. You won't be disappointed with Mme Hardy! It has the most delicious perfume of any rose I have ever grown. I don't own one here, but did when we lived in Moree, NSW. Have a look in the climbers forum as I've added a link to a website that 'cartwheels' climbing roses to make shrubs out of them. Mme Hardy is one of the roses she does because it has a tendency to throw long whippy canes. Can't wait to see your photos... though don't be too disappointed if your Mme Hardy does not flower for in its first year in the ground/pot. Mine took a year or two to settle and then flower. Belle Isis is a beautiful old Gallica too... Not heard of Summer song... just looked it up and see it's a DA... very strong colour and looks very promising... can't wait to see photos Smile

Cheers,
Simon (aka TasV)
