Re: Research pays off
Dave the walled garden is terrific, we were there 2 years ago this month. When you get there, you will see that they have used "The Generous Gardener" in a lot of places. Tell me what you think of it please.

Re: Research pays off
I'll scan the list tonight Dave and PM them through to you
I think the list comes with a caveat though... it has been shown that this book has been incorrect, based on current information, on one occassion already. It would be useful and interesting at any rate.
Dave, have you got Mrs Harold Alston? If not I'll bud you one up and send it to you next spring/summer.

Re: Research pays off
Thanks, Simon. Just received your list. Much appreciated.
Would love to try Mrs HA. Have to confess that a lot of AC roses I've tried here don't thrive. Lorraine Lee is the best. Sunny South is OK. But they all burn in the sun (+humidity I suspect) Daydream is the worst - petals fry as soon as the sun shines LOL. I've got a hunch they do better in less humid Mediterranean climates. Also serious dieback, eg Cicelely Lascelles, Editor Stewart. May be the understock? Dunno.

Re: Research pays off
Sandie, thanks for that rose forum site, I have saved it so I can go back and have a good read. Great photo of Madame Hardy there.
Dave, can you send me a photo of your Alister Clark rose you might have, please, when you have time ?

Re: Research pays off
Thanks rosemeadow-I am glad you like the site.
I am adding stuff almost daily.
The forum is very secondary at the moment as all my time is spent
researching etc. Hopefully one day I will have time to kick it off. LOL!
Isn't Mme Hardy the most beautiful rose? Perfection!
Simon-you might want to check out the articles on hybridizing by
Schoener and Van Fleet at the beginning of the 1900's.
