Still hybridising... my best seedling since 2004

Post by Admin on 6th December 2015, 21:59

My hybridising has slowed down a little due to work and family commitments, but I still manage to get a few in each year and this is the best seedling I have raised in 11 years of rose breeding! The flower still needs work but the foliage and health is exactly what I am after. It is a zero-spray rose that hasn't had a touch of spray since germinating in 2013, and it has little-to-no disease down here in rose-disease-hell. The cross is ('Wild Rover' x 'Bullseye') x 'Double Knock Out'. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is one of my earlier seedlings, which is also near disease proof for me here that will be going to trial this winter ownroot.

Sorry for the poor image quality of this photo. The colour is in the eye-bleed range that cameras find hard to capture without having a coronary.

Well done Simon, good to see you are still raising a few seedlings. I closed the nursery which will hopefully give me more time for hybridising. Water was too expensive and councils are insisting on natives that will grow in a desert. Perhaps the time has been filled up with bees which I still enjoy.
Have two seedlings kept from Baby Love X Soul Mate, health is still the main priority. Pardon the name spelling as I am not active on forums anymore and see very few rose people. However I will follow your seedling results now you are back.

Thanks, Bruce. How did you get your hands on 'Baby Love'? I ended up throwing 'Soul Mate' away (along with 70% of all my other roses), as it was not very healthy

Swanes sell it as it is a Weeks rose bred by Tom Carruth, I also believe Treloars have it.

'Soul Mate' is healthy here, I have no complaints. The seedlings are also clean.
