And they say it can't be done

Post by paulh on 22nd February 2015, 01:43

Just a light off topic story...

Don't you just love it when you are told what you want to do can't be done, then you go and do it and prove them wrong. Please explain yo say.

Well some months ago my wife's fairly expensive laptop gave up the ghost, I tried all avenues to suss out the problem to fix it. Taking it around to computer repair shops, to be told that the mother board was cactus and that you couldn't buy those boards any more and if you could, it would be cheaper to buy a new one.

Well, that's where Mr Google came in, in shape of a tech forum, the up shot was, that this was a familiar problem with Toshiba's and there was a way to operate on the board. There is a largish capacitor that is a controller that was the problem, so the trick was removing it manually without heating it and damaging the board. Then replacing it with 4 smaller ones, soldering them in at the right position and again without doing any damage to the surrounding board.

The end story was, I got the 4 specific capacitors from Portugal for $15 delivered, did the job and wammo, the Laptop is now going great. Now I have never done this type of thing before and I was well chuffed with the result.

Anyways, the next time someone says to you it can't be done, just remember Mr Google.

It seems that you need to send a thank you card to Mr Google , thanking him that you are now back in the good books with the love of your life..... Smile

Congratulations!

Would you be interested in doing my hardware  for three projects I would like to do :

1.  build an automation box for the window blinds. the ones out there are soo expensive and really not much useful..

2. build an automation system to get the roses watered and fed correctly.

3. And built a robot to do the weeding for mee!!!
