City of Goulburn

Goulburn City of Roses - 21st Annual Rose Show - 8 & 9 March 2014

Every March roses bloom in a spectacle that is Goulburnís Rose Festival, now a major annual attraction for all rose fanciers and their families. The Festival features thousands of named roses on display including the City of Goulburn Rose. The rose is a flower that sits comfortably with Goulburnís heritage buildings, broad streets, spacious parks and majestic trees.
The Goulburn Rose Festival showcases the roses of Goulburn and includes a strongly contested competition in which anyone can enter roses for judging, from champion growers to ordinary home gardeners and even children. The show is to be judged by Glynis Hayne (Roses) and Cecily Rogers (Floral Art) two of Australia's leading judges. Prize money of $1500 is donated by local businesses, organisations and individuals.

This show and the NSW Championships at the Sydney Royal Easter Show are the top two rose shows conducted in NSW.

I thought it would be a "conflict" of interest Betsy if Glynis is judging roses ?

No I won't be exhibiting as it would be considered a conflict of interest.

Just arrived back from Goulburn after attending the Goulburn City Rose Show that was judged by the AQ. The champion bunch was Brass Band and champion exhibition bloom Signature. About to leave to go and see Mrs Brown's Boys live at Allphones Arena. Will give a full report tomorrow of the rose show that is as this is a family site and I don't want to get into trouble with David.

John, I think you will find Doug did not enter as the AQ was judging and it would cause a conflict of interest.

Maree there is only one word to describe Mrs Brown's Boys "brilliant". Definitely not for minors but despite some of the colourful language that was often tinged with politically incorrectness I, the AQ †and from all indications the packed house didn't find it offensive.

John you will be pleased with both of the roses you budded. Brass Band along with Flemington Racecourse (Chapman) has been the most successful floribunda show rose in recent years throughout NSW. Best Friend has a fragrance to die for. Now all you have to do is hold your breath and hope the buds take. In Sydney it is a bit late in the year to be budding but if you are prepared to take a good percentage of losses you can still bud. With respect to the rose show as David has said †I didn't enter because the AQ was judging and my entry would have constituted a conflict of interest.

As a follow up to the Gouburn Festival of Roses the Goulburn AP&H Society held its annual rose show yesterday. Once again the Mahers and the Morphetts dominated the awards with the Mahers winning the Rose Championship and Grand Champion as well as seven champion ribbons while the Morphetts won the Miniature Championship and four champion ribbons.
