Oh gee, I LOVE the colour. I wonder if it's smelly? If I were inclined towards HTs I would plant that one with that mustardy coloured smelly rose Valencia. Pretty.

Hahah Roseman, yes, we all knew it was going to happen this way, I think. I have ordered from Treloar's, Reliable Roses, and Misty Downs. Here's my list:

Bourbons:
Mme Isaac Periere
Mme Ernest Calvat
Souv de la Malmaison (bush and climbing)
Zephirine Drouhin
La Reine Victoria

Teas:
Cl. Devoniensis
Anna Olivier
Archduke Joseph
Marie von Houtte

Rugosas:
Sarah van Fleet
Rosarie de l'Hay

Austin's:
Munstead Wood
Heritage
Abe Darby
Pretty Jessica
Charles Rene McIntosh

Albas:
Alba Semi Plena
Felicite Parmentier

Noisette:
Lamarque
Mme Alfred Carriere
Aimee Vibert
Blush Noisette

Hybrid Musk:
Buff Beauty
Felicia

Damask:
Ispahan

China:
Sophie's Perpetual

Hybrid Perpetual:
Reine des Violettes

HT:
Cl. Lorraine Lee

That is all. I thought I would just try a bit of everything and see how they go for me. Now I must go back to my digging! So many beds to make! I have been taking progress shots, so I will show you all why I have been absent from the forums so much when I'm finished!

Thanks Roseman Smile My husband thinks I'm actually crazy. Certifiable. But I will tell him "it's a legitimate illness. Just ask David. I have joined a support group". Hehe.

And I haven't yet told him that I planted crocuses and daisy seeds in the lawn. It will all start to get very confusing for him.

Post by rosebud on 19th May 2014, 07:56

I love the crocus and daisy lawn ... hilarious. I'm running around placing sticks in the lawn near tips of daffodil leaves poking through. My husband is well trained, but we have visitors staying who may just decide to hop on the ride-on mower!
I'm also attempting to put in an informal rose hedge. Many hours deciding which ones and I'm still clueless. But here's my order from Misty's... of course, I'm not just ordering for the planned hedge.
Hybrid Musks for the Hedge
Nur Mahal
Autumn Delight
Cornelia
Pax
Ballerina
Tea - for the hedge)
Snowflake

Teas - elsewhere
Catherine Mermet (replacement for wrongly named rose last year)
Mme Berkeley (replacement again)
Dr Grill
Rubens
Rosette Delizy

Cicey Lascelles (Alister Clark clg)
William Richardson (Noisette)

Of course, I'm still on the look out for treasures elsewhere. Never know what you might find when you're out and about!
Does this make me eligible for life-time membership of RA?

Haha yep, I'd say so! Your hedge sounds awesome!!! I really like the colours you've chosen for it, sounds like they will look lovely together. How long is it going to be? Snowflake looks preeeetty.

Thanks, muscovy... My budget stops at 3 of each for the hedge, although 5 of ea. would be ideal. Not sure what that measures, but a reasonable length across the garden with enough space for mower and people traffic.

Due to lack of space I am very limited when purchasing roses so it has taken me quite a long tim to make up my mind. As my two passions with respect to roses are exhibiting and Australian bred roses my choices probably won't surprise anyone. My roses for the show bench are Bridgett's Joy (exhibition), Isn't She Beautiful (full bloom),Louisa Francis (decorative). My Australian bred roses are Sharon Louise (Parkes), Brisbane Blush (Long), Love's Gift (Thomson), Dame Nellie Melba (Chapman).

danny, I had a couple fo these years ago in the US (Pacific Northwest climate Zone 8b on the US chart).

One was strong, pretty spotfree, too, and the other was a spindly thing that never got its act together. Beautiful flowers on this one, great scent. Cuts well, too, although they don't last like the bred-for-the-florist roses. I didn't knwo it was available in Oz.
