David

Any Tea seeds would be interesting. Some of their found Teas would be better but not a lot of chance of getting them here.

Out of the 25 or so OP seedlings I potted up a year or so ago 3 have turned out ok so even OP seeds a worth a trial.

Wendy, I have not forgotten your request, "I'd really like DA's 'The Shepherdess'." David Austin's have been on holidays, as we all have, first option is their contact with me on the 6th, their time ours is the 7th, time lapse I guess, there is hope.
Regard David.

Wendy, I noticed it 'The Shepherdess' is on Dan's list as well, is it because of the association with sheep you want it.

Hi Wendy and Dan, I received this reply below from Richard(he was off work over the Christmas period) overnight about your rose/roses, from what he has said about them I would the chances of them getting to OZ is very slim, but I will ask in another email tonight.

Morning David

Hope you are well.

The Shepherdess is a lovely little variety but it has one big problem. The flowers open and go over very quickly so not great in the heat and perhaps the colour is a little wishy washy
Barbara Austin is a very nice hardy rose but it doesn't repeat well and I think it is better in cold climates rather than hot
Gentle Hermione has a wonderful scent but it doesn't repeat well and the flowers go over very quickly
Harlow Carr is a really tough rose but not great in long hot periods. It has a lovely scent , small flowers in great profusion and it gets its toughness from being part Rugosa
Heathcliff, the jury is still out on this one lovely flower and long lasting but the bush itself can look a bit sparse
Port Sunlight is a really good variety in the heat but grows very tall in the heat 2m or more so better as a climber I guess, lovely tea scent
Rosemoor is no good in heat so not for you I think
The Ingenious Mr Fairchild is better as a climber as it has a tall very lax habit. Has a stunning scent and unusual colour. I think is better in a warmer climate than here in the UK
Wild Edric is a rugosa type but not great in the heat

Hope this helps you and your forum

Betsy, have a look at this from Kim,

To: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Sent: 10/10/2014 2:09:51 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time
Subj: Secret Garden

Hi Geertje and Hans,

David Mears in Australia has been attempting to obtain Secret Garden Musk Climber. If the Barnetts at Bambina Roses haven't already been sent their bud wood, might you be interested in contacting them, suggesting they may wish to also include some Secret Garden? It should do well for them and it would get it a lot closer to Australia and potentially result in at least one export there from their nursery. Just a thought.

Thank you,

Kim.

Also this bit,
To: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.];
Subject: Happy accident
Hi David,
I've just been "alerted" by Geertje at Bierkreek that Annie Laurie
McDowell and April Mooncrest have been exported to New Zealand. Do you know Jan
and Paul Barnett from Bambina Roses there? They have received bud wood of
both roses, so at least they are quite a bit closer to you than here. Hans
thought Geertje asked if it was OK with me and she thought he asked. They
discovered neither asked so she wrote to tell me of it, asking what my
preferences were. I assured them I'm fine with it. Hopefully, that makes it easier
for you to grow them. That would be fun!
Best to Carole and you, too! Kim

I am contacting the Bartletts today.

Regards David.

OMG, isn't that fantastic news! David, you are a Legend, and Kim of course has been a legend forever.

The only two roses that I seriously crave are Secret Garden and Annie Laurie McD. Always too far away, but now the branches on which they dangle have just become tantalisingly lclsoer...

How are the plant export rules between NZ and Oz? Are they less draconian than usual?
