Most of my pots are on automatic timers - once a day in normal Spring and Summer weather and up to three times a day when the temperature reaches 44 Celsius.

My pots are under shade cloth, they get the sun in the mornings and some shade in the afternoon

I planted Black Boy this year and have just been rewarded with the first flower! Unfortunately, before I could photograph it, we have had terrible winds and rain overnight and it doesn't look quite so lovely now. Has anyone else got one in their garden?

Yes Sue, we have one that is in it's second Spring/Summer, it is taking it's time. I have had it(Black Boy) in the past and they have died because of my attention. It was one of my first rose I was introduced to by my father.

Oh David! You're too tough on yourself! I'm absolutely certain your roses do very well in your care! Needless to say, we all make mistakes - I know I do! Seriously though, do you consider it is a rose which requires extra attention, ie: you can't leave it to it's own devises? Smile
