Yes, I know all about "The" Mary Rose. Beautiful and interesting to look at. Anyway, back on topic otherwise someone will be after me!! I just loved the look of the bush when I bought it. Also, brought back memories of the above ship!! I grow First Love and it has rewarded me greatly. (Bought to mark the birth of my 1st Grandchild 2 years ago!!)

How is your First Love Growing (both of them) and how tall is the Rose, have you started fertilizing yet? A bit off Topic but least a Pink Topic. I will look tomorrow to see if anything else that I absolutely love is out and shining.

Cheers.... Gold Star Rating

Excellent exhibition rose, exquisite fragrance, great colour, flower production average to poor, very susceptible to wet weather.

My Ballerina has put forth some blooms in the last few days. I just love her untidy wistful appearance, so casual but in a romantic way.

Dianne, my humble apologies!! I didn't see your reply to mine on 28th Sept!! Sorry. Embarassed Both my First loves are growing very well thank you! Both gorgeous! Yes, I started fertilizing about 2 weeks ago - Sudden Impact and worm juice. First Love grew to about 60cm last year. I planted it at the front of a border and she seems very happy. Grew a bit leggy towards the end of the season, but I suppose that's to be expected! will see how she performs this year. love

Happy I would agree with your summation of Admiral Rodney. A good exhibition rose but not one for the garden.

I am wandering if anyone has planted the Jane McGrath Rose. Being that Jane was always my Hero she was so Brave, and such a Lady. I decided to buy 2 x Standards 2 years ago. I have them in pots. The mix is good, they get enough sun and I talk to them regularly. But they just don't want to grow well for me.

Dianne, I don't have one, but a friend of mine does and hers took a while to settle down. Her husband - a great cricket fan - even stepped in, after she bullied him into talking "cricket" to the poor thing! LOL
Keep your fingers crossed and maybe brush up on your cricket!! LOL

I have found JMR disappointing. From what can remember JMR is a sport of Bonica.

I think you are right Ausrose, as she is very similar to Bonica. I am very disappointed in her but will persevere if only because of who she is.
Have a Great Week End everyone. There is a Rose Show on at Mount Coot-tha on the Week End so I will treat myself to an outing.

Yes. Smells lovely. Pretty tough. Gets a little blackspot - but to be honest most roses do at my place - it doesn't go all Bonica on me though.

Dannyboy, FQ was growing really well with big blooms l until I moved it and it has sulked ever since.
I may give it a while longer to see if it improves. I did see another one at Bunnings a couple of days ago which really suprised me as I've never seen FQ available there before..

I have Heaven Scent , its quite a old bush now , it just keeps on flowering though , nice fragrance , black spot yep , depending on the season , good rose .... I had four Mary Rose's and they were good bloomers , but no perfume and the B.S and mildew drove me nuts down here , they also had some rose mosaic disease too , i got sick of them and pulled them out ..
