Unfortunately Pink Kardinal suffers with a lot of split centres.

Ausrose, can you give me some idea of Sightsaver's size and growth habit? Does it have decent width in proportion to height, or is it more vertically inclined??

Thankfully this is nothing we have ever experienced with ours. We have only had one or two snake-eye centres on all of our Pink Kardinal roses

Apart from going by several names, Brides Dream, Märchenkönigin, I don't know a lot about it.
It just doesn't seem popular anymore here in Brisbane.
I saw it at a rose show and tracked it down. It's parents are Royal Highness and seedling and it was bred it Germany 1985. It was growing quite well and the blooms are large, no fragrance though.

Happy, I did track it down by it's other names and it was bred by Kordes.
We have Royal Highness and it would be around 5 years old is cutting grown. Grows to be a big bush. It was given to us by Rosemeadow(Karen).

Having only having roses as a serious hobby for 3 odd years, I only have a couple of pinks that have given me continuous visual joy. The Adelaide has a better fragrance, while the Arianna has a better looking bloom imo.

Thanks, I tried to find Royal Highness the other day at the nursery, couldn't find one with blooms to compare to FQ, but being one of the parents, I imagine it to be similar in growth etc.

Anna I am surprised that your Pink Kardinal isn't plagued by split centres as over here on the dark side most of the top exhibitors dug the rose out because of the split centre problem.

I think we have only had one or two but most f them are absolutely fab. I haven't heard of any others having this problem at RSWA either. Could it be effected by the rootstock it is grown on?

Anna some strange things happen over here on the dark side (e.g. the crows fly backwards to keep the sun out of their eyes etc.) so this maybe just another one of those phenomena.

With respect to Kardinal and Happy Anniversary (an orange sport of Kardinal) both of which I grow and have done so for a long time I have never seen a split centre.

Anna in my opinion it is ever bit as good as Kardinal and is an excellent addition to an exhibitor's exhibition and bunch classes of roses in NSW. The photo is of a Bunch of Five that won Champion Bunch at the 2011 Sydney Royal Easter Show. It was shown by the African Queen. This photo doesn't show the bunch as it was judged. This was due to the photo being was taken a couple of hours after judging. You will notice the flower in front right starting to blow. If the bunch had been like this at judging time it wouldn't have filled a place.

Thanks Jordan, I have Ambridge Rose, but none of the others I must look them up to find out more. Is CHARLES R MACINTOSHI more mauve than pink as I am looking for those but I am going to start a New Topic so we had better not go to off track. I love David Austin Roses not because they are English or any other reason than the fact the colours suit my garden, they don't mind being in with other plants, the form & perfume are wonderful & the Aphids & Black Spot are not really a problem here much to a lot of people's surprise. If anyone can suggest Pinks with all these qualities please let me know as I am always on the look out for more. Not too tall though. Also I do plant a lot of Old Fashioned.
Keep Planting Roses.
