My Favourite Red Florabunda

Hi all you clever people! cheers You have helped me identify Tequila Sunrise and Cocktail, now I have another one for you!
This deep red rose does really flower continuously from November to May with multiple heads of blooms. It is no more than three inches wide and the fully mature bloom opens up to display its yellow stamens.
It grows to about 90cm tall. It has a slight perfume.

Hi Deirdre... isn't that the one we thought was 'Lilli Marlene'? Mine has no flowers on it at the moment (though I have a few photos I took of it earlier this season) and I can go and photograph the leaves, the thorns, the stipules, the buds (I think it has new ones forming...), etc and post them for comparison later tonight Smile

I don't think it isTas. Lilli Marlene in HMF looks to have less petals whereas my rose has around 50 petals and is a much better shaped flower. Also I think my rose is a darker red that Lilli Marlene.

Deirdre... I think you are right in that it's not 'Lilli Marlene'... I was just having a closer look at the buds on yours and the buds on my Lilli Marlene. The buds and flower stalks of LM seem the be a little glandular (hairy) and yours seems quite smooth. They seem pretty close in other respects but are differernt on that count.

yeah, I have Lilli marlene in my garden too, I had forgotten about it when I last posted. LM is smaller and looser than my Fave. Did I tell you My Fave has 48 petals?

I looked at every red floribunda in the Rogers web site today. The only one that came close is a rose called "Insel Mainou". But I am not sure because the first photo in HMF looked spot on but the second one was right off. Also it is described as having 17-25 petals whereas mine has nearly 50.
If it is that rose then I am not surprised that My old friend Les said it had no name when he gave it to me!

Dee... I was going back through this one... there is a floribunda sold by Treloars called 'Red Pixie'. Does this look right?

It reminds me of one my nana used to grow called Evelyn Fison.
This pic on HMF [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is the colour that I remember Nana's flowers to be , all the othe pix seem to be suffering from the same malaise that my PHD camera does when confronted with a red rose >8@

cheers. Rosalie
