Find Me a Rose Please!

Post by SueH on 17th July 2013, 13:12

Hi Everyone.
I am proud to announce the arrival of my new granddaughter, Bridget Rose. She was born in a terrible rush, on Monday and delivered by my son because the midwives hadn't arrived!
Now, I would like to plant a rose for her as I did for her sister Holly. I can't find a rose called "Bridget", so any suggestions would be gratefully received! I planted "First Love", for Holly.
Many thanks, SueH

Hi Neptune! You're a legend!! Went on the above site and hey presto! there is was! It is a Hybrid Musk rose, 5/6 ft in height and an apricot colour/blush. Now, I just have to track it down! Will try my nurseries or if anyone has any brilliant contacts, I would be very grateful! Very Happy

Sue there are many uses of HMF, as a premium member youget to find all the aspects of a rose, who bred it,when why and more. On the members page it is unlimited, cost a minor $12 or $24 a year. It is run by volunteers, but in the mean time, here is the link to all the nurseries in our data base.

paulh, thanks to you too. I haven't heard of Bridget's Joy, but will certainly ask my growers - Treloars etc, to track it down. Thank you so much once again! SueH

As you would more than likely be aware if you have looked up Bridget's Joy on Help Me Find it is a sport of Coral Fiesta that was discovered by Lennie Johnstone in 1997. In Australia the rose Coral Fiesta goes by the name Madame Teresa. A little bit of trivia the rosarian who discovered the sport Lennie Johnstone is the person who Paul Hains (President of ARBA) named his miniflora Lennie after. If my memory serves me right it was named to celebrate Lennie Johnstone's 90th birthday. If you can get hold of the rose it is a beauty as Madame Teresa is an outstanding rose that has won many champion exhibition ribbons.

Aurose, what can I say! I certainly didn't think i get Trivia questions/answers on the forum!! LOLOL But, thank you once again. I must admit, I haven't been on the HMF site yet - have been a bit busy with my new granddaughter! However, I will as soon as I finish thanking you! SueH Clap

Sue your best bet of finding the rose Bridget's Joy would be contact Paul Haines as he may know where it's available if in fact it is. Paul's contact details can be found on the Australia Rose Breeders Association website.

The spelling is not exactly the same - but it is a variation - and since you are in Melbourne you might be able to get hold of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] from Newstead Roses at Monbulk. It's an Australian-bred HT (Dawson) and I really love it.

Thank you AutumnDamask. That's great. I heard from Paul Haines - ARBA - he has also pointed me in the right direction! I shall certainly look at St Brigid's Rose as well. I had heard it is a hybrid Damask rose. I love these! Will now go a hunting, thanks to you! SueH Clap
