Roses from Weeks

Post by The Lazy Rosarian on 28th February 2013, 06:36

The link below is of roses being offered by a nursery named Edmunds Roses. The link when opened will have a list on the left hand side with roses from Weeks Roses, which in turn Swanes here in OZ are agents for, this been said, some of these "may" get to our shores and most won't. So I guess some of us can just "drool" Eye Popper over.
All you need to do is click on one of the WEK what ever___ name and it will come up.

Yes it would be quicker to get Warren's roses. We can't get them off him at present unless there is another method(not stealing). Warren has not got anyone to take them up here, apart from one nursery looking as far as I am aware.
So we can only look at what might come to Oz from Germany, France and the USA.

Edmunds was the pre-eminent modern rose supplier of its day. Back in the 90s, (when I lived in Seattle)it was a family-run business, and a model of how a rose company shoull be run.

The blurbs were beautiful but also reasonably candid , offerings were always the latest and greatest, but the best of the contemporary classics were always available..

As for the bareroots thermselves - OMG you should have seen the fresh canes and root systems on these plants!!! The most fantastically well developed specimens I have ever received by mail. The prices were premium, but the roses themselves were 5-star quality. If you reported the slightest problem with a rose, there was a replacement at your doorstep by the time you hung up the phone.

Financial problems in a carshing American economy drove the compant to teh wall. I had heard it was out of business, then heard it had been taken over. I can't vouch for the new managment, but the Edmunds family were rated top of the tree by the serious US rosarian establishment. and was belovedand trusted by the rest of us nobodies, too.

I was meaning that it would be quicker for the suppliers to get their roses from Warren than go through all the quarantine guff from overseas.

I understand that part Wendy, first off Warren has to get his foot in the door with our growers. As mentioned he has one foot in the door in Victoria. There are other growers in Oz which he will have to try and seduce into trialling his roses. IMO he will have to do some travelling to them or post photos to the big wigs of each grower, if he has not done this already.
