As I was watching footage of the floods on TV, I thought of the members here. Hope you are safe and well.

Bloody wet (460mm since Thusday Night). No power since early yesterday morning, a couple of trees down but generally ok.

Careful what you wish for...I was hoping for rain too, but was lucky to escape with a blackout for a day, wind was pretty bad but the roses did alright.

Roseman, I heard it was 200mm, not sure how acurate that is, we are south of Brisbane, just got a lot of rain and wind. I really feel for the people who are getting flooded again after the floods in 2011, it's awful..

Well the suns out this morning but we still have no power and our mobile phone towers have stopped working (I'm sending this from my office in town).

Rainfall out our place as of this morning was 510mm since Thursday and yes that was probably just a bit more than I had hoped for but oh well itís stopped now. Hopefully the groundwater has been recharged.

Latest toll at our place is a large Jacaranda down (driving around we saw several of these come down around the district), a large gum has lost one of its big branches on to the old chook pen, the BR Cant and Nancy Hayward on the shelter up the back were blown off with one of the BR Cants being broken in a few spots but should recover, the tree with the Parks Yellow Not growing on it lost a couple of large branches (it needed pruning anyway) and we have 2 Tonne of leaves and branches and pine cones from the big Bunya Pines near the house to clean up.

It could be worse. Just 200metres north of our place a wind storm (tornado?) ripped through one of our neighbours paddock knocking down several large tree then up through the Lychee farm behind our place taking our netting and knocking over about 10 trees that were ready for harvest then up the hill knocking over several large gum tress before simply stopping .

Hopefully that will be our storm for the year.

Good grief!!!! And here I was wringing my hands about a few branches. Were you badly affected by the storm last year, balinbear? Would you rate this one as more severe? The tornados added a new dimension of destruction to QLD, for sure. Nature's way of pruning...

How are you coping without power at home? I'm sure you don't want live in your office . Glad that you are personally safe and your home is intact - the main thing

These types of storms seem to affect different areas differing amounts. We had a lot of rain in the 2011 floods (only about 400mm) but 10 kms north and south of us only had 100mm. The rain belt that ran across us ran straight up to Toowoomba and caused all the flooding. This belt stayed in the one spot or nealy a day. The only damage that we had that time was the loss of a lot of Salvias etc that did not like the water.

We generally miss most of the bad thinderstorms as the hills to the west seem to deflect them north and south of our place but we generally get rain from them.
