Daybreaker, for Finbarr

Post by betsyw on 16th November 2012, 14:45

Just went over to Heritage Gardens nursery in Maitland with a friend to pick up an order for non-rose stuff. We took a stroll among the roses for fun. There in the middle of many ordinary roses was this luminous, floriforous beauty of perfect shape. The swing tag said Daybreaker. It was a Swanes tag.

I know it's not fragrant, and I walked away from it, muttering Swanes, Finbarr, recommendation, etc.

I must have looked conflicted, because my friend plucked it from the row, plonked it on the counter, paid for it and thrust it upon me as an early Christmas present.

I will post pix on weekend. Thank you Finbarr, Swanes, and others here who have praised this one. It is just a heartstarter.

Edit: A few extra details - 14 flowers in various stages, and the most satisfyingly symmetrical young bush I have seen in a nursery rose since I spotted a picture- perfect Darcy Bussell last year (gave it as a present, so what goes around, comes around)

Betsy is this the same Daybreaker on HMF that notes strong tea fragrance? Comments seem to support this. Maybe yours will develop its fragrance in time? I look forward to seeing your pics as it looks like a nice rose, intriguing colour variation. Your friend must be a very kind person who knows your weakness. Now, what to give her/him for Christmas. santa

Here's what the swing tag says: "moderate pleasing tea fragrance". Now I seem to recall that when Finbarr made his recommendations, he mentioned that DB wasn't much of a perfume producer.

Maybe I have mis-remembered ;-))))))) Thank yoooo for the heads up, silky!
