2012 Seedling Blooms

Post by Guest on 23rd August 2012, 15:20

All those headaches and hard work is starting to show, here is a seedlings first bloom which may not look much at the moment, but I am confident it will develop into some ok. The cross is (Ithaca X SAFMUT)

Ithaca (Charles Austin X Mme Caroline Testou)
SAFMUT ( Safrano X Mutabilis)

This is a seedling of a (Baronne Ed Rothschild X Mme C Testou ) X Ophelia, it has an unusual colour combo. The petals sort of have that colour of Julia's Rose with dark red on the petal edge. Quite honestly I did not expect this colour combo from this cross. A few more days and I will know for sure, but I hope it retains its unusual colour.

Thanks Maree, it may be still a little early to make assumptions about colour , but if I think what its going to do I will be very happy. I reckon its got about one more week in this cool weather before opening , I feel like the expecting father outside the labour ward LOL. These are things which I planned one year ago when I was working out what I was going to match up the next spring.

Baronne Ed Rothschild X Mme C Testou, Warren have you a photo of this cross. I have looked at 'Ophelia' and understand it colour, but I can't visualise the cross colour
Just to add a bit more , I have just received by booklet caaled "The Rose Breeder", guess who features in it, our very owm Warren, a photo of him and some of his roses, well done mate.

Dave the (Baronne Ed Rothschild X Mme C Testou) an unnamed seedling coded 07 10A 8B has the very similar colouring to Baronne Ed Rothschild and is extremely fertile. Its sibling Overlander is structurely a better rose but less fertile.
This is Overlander

I think that Bi colouring has come over from B ed Roth , from the Peace part in it, alot of Peace offspring have bicolouring.

If you saw 07 10A 8B you would probably shovell it but it produces nice roses as these below, very easily, and there are a lot more comming through.

When Laurie arrived that day and took those pics , he said you could have had a shave and I said you didnt tell me that you were going to take my Bl***y photo LOL

Here is a 2012 seedling with its first flower, looking at its form it is quite high centred and has a killer strong fruity perfume, probably from Dr AJ Verhage. This is a third generation of my own creations, here is the breeding.

This seedling is around 12ks old so the bloom still has alot of developing to do, but I really like the form and will look tops if its petal count increases.

Killer strong fruity perfume? That sounds really nice and it IS very high centered, lovely. Have you thought of a name for it yet?

This is the one from 24 th August, still a bit iffy about this one. The colours and structure are all wrong and the petals look like there made of plastic. This should be fully open by next week and I will have another look, may have to let it rebloom and reaccess it. One good thing though, it has a strong perfume at this stage

I think itís beautiful; canít see a thing wrong with it.
Why is the colour and structure all wrong, was it supposed to be something specific?

Doesnít look washed out from my end, maybe your expectations were too specific, and people in stormy locations will love a rigid structure.
