Rose Seedlings for 2012

Post by Guest on 10th June 2012, 12:59

These probably germinated around 3 - 4 wks ago and were potted up into 2"tubes so as to grow out. They are a mix of HT, Flori and shrub types.

They are very healthy seedlings Warren.
Are you using potting mix or seed raising mix in these tubes ?
I am looking forward to seeing the flowers. I know patience is a vertue.

Carole I use potting mix at this stage, drainage is very important as wet feet make them go backwards. The larger ones should have blooms forming by the end of July.

Great looking seedlings Warren...wow blooms from seed in approx 3months,fantastic! How long did it take for seed germination and did you stratify them beforehand?

It is a traite I have bred in my roses, non stop repeat and vigour with in the plant.Seed germination varies depending on the cultivars which you use in the breeding cycle. I have a group of roses which I bred which when the hip is ripe, seed is harvested, stratified and they start germinating in the fridge by wk 5. By 2 wks most have germinated once sown in seed raising mix. Some of the big HT's and Tea's can take longer to germinate due to their thick seed coating. Seed is stratified for a minimum period of 6wks.

Warren, we have still not seen the rose you posted on RHA. I think you should share with us Aussies as well.
