Re: Old Blush?

Post by IanM on 8th May 2012, 10:14

Well first off, Old Blush (aka 'Parsons Pink') is a China rose, Hume's Blush is a tea rose. It can be very difficult identifying roses from photos, without benefit of leaves and height, flower size etc.

But having said that, Ozros your rose looks a bit too small and neat for Old Blush in my opinion. Old Blush is in fact the rose in my profile pic, which you can see to the right of my post. (Colour is badly distorted though - damn digital cameras!!!) I wonder if your rose might be Rosa Chinensis 'Minima'?

Barbara B's photo looks right for Old Blush.

Balinbear, your rose on first page of this thread is not Old Blush, unless the photo has lied about the colour. But even then the form and upright stature looks completely wrong. It looks more like one of the recent China introductions. The name is escaping me at present. Name is something like Thousand Lights... 10,000 Lights???

Autumn Damask, that is either an exceptionally healthy Old Blush or it is actually something else like Le Vesuve or Archduke Charles??? The larger leaves suggest to me it may not be Old Blush.

Balinbear, your "Hume's Blush" looks like same thing as "Agnes Smith" ROR and "Blakiston Tea" ROR. The big flowers on those rather long and very spindly stems always give it away. However I would have expected the flowers to be a bit fuller, although I notice my plant sometimes produces these "less full" flowers from time to time. Without seeing the plant it can be difficult to tell for sure.

Post by IanM on 8th May 2012, 10:51

Thanks for posting together. Smile My opinion is still the same and I think Ozroz's pic may be of Minima, as it looks too neat and has too many petals for Old Blush. I am largely guessing at the others, but from top to bottom I ID them as Old Blush (probably), followed by Archduke Charles (or maybe Le Vesuve?), Ten Thousand Lights China (maybe), and Rosa chinensis 'Minima'.

I might ask Margaret Furness to take a look as she has seen many more of these roses than I have.
