Two Out This Morning

Post by blueochre on 9th April 2012, 12:24

A couple of roses that were out this morning.

Stanwell Perpetual

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The colour is a little washed out and is tending toward the colour as fades to almost white over several days.

It is an indestructible rose and is high on my list of desert island roses. It is almost never without a flower, has a nice perfume, I like the ferny foliage and very prickly stems. Non rose lovers are aghast that you would even have such a prickly plant in the garden.

The Next is Altissimo. Known as a climber, mine however resides in a raised bed (original pot) that has firmly taken root while waiting for it's structure to be completed. Shock horror, I bet I am the only one on this board who buys roses before having a place to plant them!

The large single blooms unfurl from long pointed buds and dance in the air like big red butterflies.

Rosalie Rosalie, what are we going to do with you. There is an awefull lot of growth non those bare rooted roses, when you plant them give them heaps of water , as they could wilt a bit

They look like packaging from the W shop(big) and if they are the roses come from a wholesale rose nursery in S.A.. From memory it is called something like Rosalyn or Roslyn, run by the daughter now. Possible called St Kilda Roses a long time ago.
I must admit they are good sized plants.

I think I have a few still in pots (they've been repotted) that I purchased as bare root roses a couple of years a go.
Then there are the ones from the Open Garden the other day that I am not too sure where they are going plus the 50 or so cutting grown plants..............

Just made my gardens a little bigger awaiting the roses on order....not sure where they will all go though don't think the gardens are big enough to hold them all. still have some in pots waiting for a more permanent home.
