three cheers for Dorothy!

Post by lildeb on 26th March 2012, 20:36

Guess what! Out walking through all the flood debris in the old foal paddock (from when we had horses..) and.. lo... my poor Dorothy Perkins who was last seen happily grabbing any fool within reach of her tub (a big old concreters' wheelbarrow) was lying face-down in the mud, roots to the sky, and new little green tips reaching to heaven!

I (cautiously) turned her over and carted her home, where she now sits in dignified splendour, plotting her next attack on her unwitting victim... that would be me.... lol...

I have a soft spot for ol' Dotty , Deb.
My gran used to have a magnificent specimen growing as a weeping standard ; and when she flowered in the spring . Oh My Word !

So glad you have found yours ; it's going to be a very trying next few months I expect , whilst you keep on making discoveries .

All the best. Rosalie

I had read that usually the only way you can get hold of Dorothy these days is as a weeping standard because of her rampant growth, so when I found a non-standard one I grabbed it, and I let her cascade out of the old wheelbarrow, she can get as rampant as she likes there.. I do actually like rambling, rampant roses... Let them go, I say... over the sheds, chook houses, old dunny.... let them lie in wait for victims, and show off that magnificent colour, even the once-blooming ones. But then, I adore the gentle old Moss varieties smiling out from under deciduous trees too.. flower
It will be a lovely surprise whenever I find an old friend that I thought had gone to rose heaven, waiting for me to stumble over her.. the nicest sort of surprise Innocent

To date, the only roses I know I have lost beyond resurrection are Crepuscle, growing from a cutting and Irish Marble cutting-grown... not too bad eh? Gold Star Rating

Could have been much much worse!

Deb, we can help with "Crepuscule". Now for the subject of this thread, the dreaded Dorothy, do want one as bush, can get a piece from a neighbour before he gives it it's medicine called Round/up.
