Here are some of my Gladdie's. You can see why, I hope, we are moving them. They will be planted in rows in a new area and staked or something to keep them straight.

Better off adding a warning, my goats aren't too gentle if someone new tries to milk them, they really make them work for the milk!

Neat us roflmao roflmao roflmao
That is only a fraction of the 400 and yes the colours are glorious and we have many more colours. David likes the green ones best.
As you can see they have to be staked to get nice straight stems.
So by putting them in rows we should be able to fix something up to tie them to.
We gave the flowers away this year to see if people liked them. They loved them. Some younger people had never seen them before and older ones hadn't seen them for years.
I am growing them to sell the flowers at our local markets. I have wanted to grow and sell cut flowers for many years and this coming season I should have enough to make it worth while paying for a stall. I hope to get another 500 bulbs this year maybe 1,000 lol!
I am so pleased David wont see this post Innocent

Perhaps the man could warm his hands first Happy Dance

I adore the little swamp iris and dwarf iris, they are sweet...

I was thinking to myself about not being able to send plants etc to W.A., and what to do, then I suddenly thought...
It's not ezakly roses, but I would be delighted to barter handmade goats milk soaps for rose cuttings too....I can even do rose scented soaps to make it sound more legit! Clap

Deb,
Are you any good at striking cuttings, I am very hit and miss, more miss than hit Very Sad
I dont have the Iris's you posted about but I do have purple German Iris's, they do have a beardand are quite short. Tall Bearded Irises. If you like those I will send you some.
We can also send you lots of rose cuttings, dwarf Dahlia seeds (I have just started collecting them) Gladdie bulblets.
That is all I can think of at the moment but I am sure I can find other plants to help you get a pretty garden.

Re: Rose Classifieds

Post by lildeb on 29th March 2012, 14:06

I have had a really good rate of sucess here with striking cuttings, growing seeds etc, I doubt if it is any colouration on my thumbs, more that we have a lovely climate, and because I have been concentrating on building up the quality of the soil ever since we have been here, rotating duck and chook yards into the next year's vegie patches, and loading the soil up with manure.. whoever said life is sh** has won my approval! Laughing

I would be absolutely stoked with any cuttings, bulblets etc, and geranium cuttings too- my geraniums, species geraniums, scented leaf pelargoniums and most of my Ivy leaved pelargoniums drowned... I have decided they will all be tubbed/potted etc in future!! (on pontoons perhaps???)

I have cat's whiskers, both the lilac and the white, if anyone wants cuttings too, they strike really well cat
I have plenty of pretty soaps and would be delighted to barter/trade!!

I have a couple of geranium plants that I can send you cutting of BUT to my mind they are just ordinary geraniums scratch
Deb, I am sure your soaps are devine but I will pass on them.
You just get on your feet again,
1) You sell your soaps.
2) Postage costs money.
Another thought I have White Wind Flowers if you would like some.

Then I hope you enjoy the Iris's I send. You will have to put them away from flood areas as they dont like getting to wet and they do like some frost in winter. Very easy care, love sun and frost and hardly any water.

AND I haven't been selling my soaps since the lady I taught to make them got hold of my customer list and set up in opposition. I think she is probably the one who arranged for the council to come down on us too... as I am not a great believer in co-incidence... wry smile..
But that's all okay, maybe it's a new direction for us, I still love making the soap, and sharing it, we shall see what new adventures life brings, hey Afro

Thank you Carole, I can hardly wait! Up toward the front of the block and up the driveway is flood-free, and quite a dry area I love you

In fact, I suggested, only half joking, that we should build a little gazebo/covered area there in case we need to sit out another flood!

Re: Rose Classifieds

Post by lildeb on 29th March 2012, 17:14

At the front of the block is an area the width of most older town house blocks, that was used as a public stock route... it is kind of ours now and we use it, however if someone wanted to they could still insist on being permitted to move their cattle along the front of our place using that area. We are wanting to get it re-zoned through council, as the old cattle dips at the far end of our place haven't been used in years, and indeed, can't be used, they are all collapsed and in ruins. We have been cleaning out the scrub and undergrowth along the front and at the dip, for the last three years, as it is one of the main areas the dingoes and feral dogs were using as a main thoroughfare between this place, our neighbour and the farm across the dirt road.
