Last seasons roses

Post by sallybcs on 7th March 2012, 21:55

I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on roses planted last winter. I thinking about my list of roses for winter 2010 and would love some good tips etc on what to buy/avoid etc.

I'll start by saying that at this stage I think Summer Memories (Treloar) is a winner. I've only sprayed once and it has nearly all it's leaves and has had at least 3 flushes this summer. I also have Munstead Wood, which I think is a lovely rose, it is struggling with bs a little more (I did vow to change my ways and spray when needed this summer, but it was hardly worth it with all the rain). Beautiful flower and fragrance. Other purchases were from Mistydowns, the EHT Comtesse Vandal .... it's not looking so good and neither is the Tea, Jean Ducher, however I think the neighbour's gum tree has grown way too big. I may have to give up on roses in that area, because they are in shade till 11.30am even now and it only gets worse for the next few months, so for 6 months of the year they are not getting enough sun. Rozette de Lizy is older and larger, but I've noticed that it doesn't produce many flowers. Brindabella Bouquet is a few years old, but I haven't dead headed it, I'm sure it would be doing better with some TLC, so far it has fought off bs.
