Note to self... don't prep pollens when I am tired

In automatic mode tonight.. prepping some anthers for pollen collection and I now have a nice full container of anthers... from 'Albertine'.... AND 'Bonica' Duh

If the resulting seedlings climb then they are xAlbertine and if they don't they are xBonica? hehe

Well... it's not as easy as that... it never is Rolling Eyes

'Albertine' is wichurana x a HT so it is carrying non-climbing (standard size). It will be a triploid meaning it has inherited 2 non-climbing genes and one climbing gene which means crossed with a non-climbing rose (which is what I had intended) that is also probably triploid (which means it can make either n or 2n eggs/pollen) so there is a very good chance it will inherit non-climbing (which is why I want to use it with non-climbing wich-shrubs). Thye pedigree of both 'Bonica' and 'Albertine' have similar roots so it would actually be impossible for me to tell from whence they came... and therein lies my dilema... so I chucked it out and collected fresh lots... I'm off.. I have 12 pollens to put out tonight... Smile

I find genetics fascinating.... but after a while it does my head in! Afro
