Something a little bit special :)

Post by Admin on 13th October 2011, 22:54

No photos yet, but I will be watching this one VERY carefully! Checking my seed pots today I noticed an open pollinated "Mrs Val Nash" seed has germinated and seems to be growing strongly. This is the first (probably) full tea seedling I've had. When Patricia sent me cuttings of "Mrs Val Nash" to try the bag contained a hip that had three seeds in it. The cuttings failed on me but this little guy has popped up Smile I think I'm going to do a few Tea x Tea crosses this year to try and add to the list of Teas we have available to us Smile

Before it opened fully... but not, unfortunately, before the heat got to it. This is its first flower. It is barely 4cm across. No perfume that I can detect.

It doesn't look a dog, Simon. The seed parent "Mrs. Val Nash" is surrounded by other tea roses and it is my most healthiest, floriferous and largest bush rose in the bed. I don't think it is pure tea although it has many characteristics, like the branching from one point on the stem (which David Ruston called the pin-cushion effect) I have often wondered if it could be a Clark rose, but have systematically gone through the lot and never been able to link it to anything. The bloom (as in a new plum's skin) on the new purple branches is characteristic of this rose. Oh, well done. Simon. I am excited for you.
ps. There are lots of photos of "Mrs. Val Nash" on HelpMefind.

I'm hoping, Carole, that in this little one there beats the heart of a giant Smile As it grows larger its flower will increase in size, increase the petal count and it may even change colour. At this point it has a LOT of growing to do... the whole plant is barely 10cm tall.

Mother Nature created this one. All I did was stick it in the ground Wink
