Hi everyone

Post by AutumnDamask on 8th June 2011, 06:14

Just saying hello as a newbie. Smile

I have a farm near Benalla, VIC where I have quite a few roses. They've done quite well despite some shameful neglect. Embarassed
Hopefully I can learn a bit and share a bit here. Smile

Yeah, up early. Doesn't always mean I get things done though... :p

Benalla does have a well-established, well-known rose garden but the State Rose gardens are down at Werribee.

Welcome autumnDamask, Haven't been to Benalla though I grow and propagate 'City of Benalla' A nice rose bred by Dawson so it is an all Australian rose.

Thanks Smile I haven't got 'City of Benalla'. I should see if Goldenvale still sell it.

Hi,
I got mine from GoldenVale. Are they still open for business? I know the drought hit them hard. They are my rose nursery of choice.

Hi A.D.
My knowledge of the E.S is pretty sketchy ; for some reason my brain keeps telling me Benella is a dairying district ? which it probably is not .... if I pulled my finger out and did some googling I'd find it was famous for it's dry land olive groves or possibly tantatlite mines or something else entirely.
Doesn't really matter Laughing looks like roses grow there pretty well if the one you have planted on your pergola is any indication . Gold Star Rating

Welcome to Rose Talk from me here in W.A ; it's great place to pull up a pew and sit down with a cuppa and do some seriously rosie reading .

cheers. Rosalie

Thanks Rosalie Smile

That one on the pergola is the Gold Star Rating

North of Benalla is a lot of cropping, south is mostly dryland grazing. There are some dairies. Wink (North west of here is a large dairy area so you weren't too far wrong!)
