The Rumsey Rose Garden Parramatta, 2010
I was blessed that my Mum and sister could join me on my birthday in October at the Rumsey Rose Garden and then later on for a lovely lunch by the river.
Whilst at the garden I took around 100 photos as it was looking particularly 'speccy' (a term my dear friend Tam used a lot). I will post a few here this evening as I listen to the much welcomed rain beating down on my roof after a hard day's work in the garden.
My beautiful Mum and sis taking a break under the 'Belle Portugaise' arbour

Great photos Rita! Is that 'Rêve d'Or' growing as a shrub instead of a climber???
Re: The Rumsey Rose Garden Parramatta, 2010
Thanks Simon, and yes, 'Rêve d'Or' at Parra Park is a shrub ... shrub shots follow ...

Did you like Francis Dubreuill? I think you were commenting about this rose sometime back.

Commenting on how poor it is here
Good to see that it is doing nicely somewhere
I budded mine a week or two back onto a strong multiflora understock to see if that makes any difference.
Re: The Rumsey Rose Garden Parramatta, 2010
The gardens are looking in great nick, Rita (and so is your Mum!). The roses are flourishing and not a weed in sight. I'd better not go there - I'd start underplanting the roses with perennials

Re: The Rumsey Rose Garden Parramatta, 2010
Yes (David C), the garden was in great nick late last year with all the rain, even though most of the climbing roses have been butchered back. Once upon a time, you had to struggled to find the robust rose structures they climb on, now they are in full view. These will take a long time to recover to their former canopy - see pics below. This year the garden is again struggling but I think, given the robustness of the roses planted, will survive as it has done so far. Oh there are weeds, but not many as they mulched well this time round. David I don't think the 'Trust' could handle underplanting - they would chuck a 'spaz'.
My Mum, God bless her, will be 93 this year and is going strong. She is loving her 'Agnes' and 'Delicata' rugosa roses. I'm so glad that Mum has finally grown to love roses, even if it has taken her 92 years
David (M)
tks for the compliment.
A couple of pics of the gardens on Australia Day 2011:

A few pics of roses I think people have enquired about? Someone wanted 'hippy' roses

Simon, I think you had asked about this one, alas, in this garden where it once thrived it is now ...

Couldn't find a tag for this beauty, but it was in the Damask/Gallica section ... any clues please?

Thanks Rita. Californica is one that I'm interested in introducing to the breeding program here. 'Hippy' is a great name for a rugosa hybrid!!!
