The Young Ones are growing well

Post by Guest on 28th December 2010, 17:50

This is a bed of the first lot of seedlings put into the grow out beds in august this year, they were around 6" high and have been pruned about one month ago to encourage tilliering.

Warren, how many might be in the bed and the next question would be how many might survive till next year

Howdy roseman

In that bed there are around 240, lost a few from wet feet during the rain, but that does nt worry me , tells me they were on the week side. what i have put in, all will be ok, I mulch very heavily against the heat, friends of mine have a laugh in how much effort I put in, left home this morning around 10am , got home at 5pm

Babies are looking good Warren!

It's bloody hard work hybridising roses that's for sure!!! We should release a series called 'Blood, Sweat, and Tears'. I spent a few hundred dollars today buying materials to build new fences to make a new test bed myself for new babies... been fencing all day and I'm knackered now...

How big is that test bed Warren?

Have two beds which are 50mtrs long, spent all day mulching as we are going to get close to 40 on friday and saturday, good thing about mulch the temperature can be 15c less than surrounding temperature, (cool soil means less evaporation, plus roses love their roots being cool) sort of like the conditions for clematis .

Iam really happy with the results for this year, mind you my breeding programme went in a different direction from previous years.
