not a suggestion, a query

Simon, Rosetalkaustralia only recognises me for a few visits before forgetting me entirely. This has happened over and over. Does a cookie get lost or something? I would like to be remembered because, fallible human that I am, I keep forgetting my password and have to look it up.

If you do, as I do, and clean you internet cache of temporary files, and other such cookies, then you will lose the RT cookie (and every other cookie) and you will need to log in again to get another copy of the cookie. If you are doing this periodically, as I suspect you are, instead of every day, like I do, then it will seem as though RT recognises you for extended periods of time and then disappears. If you are using Internet Explorer (any version) then when you go to 'Tools' -> 'Internet Options' and click on 'Delete' it will hunt out and delete all temporary image files, java script files, PDFs, cookies etc that you might have downloaded when viewing any website. This occurs even if you select 'Remember Me' when you log in because the 'Remember Me' command only tells your browser to commit the cookie to a more permanent part of your temporary internet files folder. If you leave this unchecked then the cookie is stored in a more temporary location and when you leave RT it removes it.

Hope this helps... I take this as a good sign as it tells me you are taking internet security seriously by removing these files and in doing so it improves the efficiency of your computer by removing all these annoying little files that clog up your hard drive(s)

Nup. Wish I could claim to be a good computer housekeeper but I wouldn't know where to look for the cookie cache, let alone how to clean it out. (I use a Mac and Safari or - occasionally - Firefox.) The Forgettery is none of my doing.

Ok... not sure then... I have Safari here and test RT through it to make sure it works across various platforms so will see if there is anything unusual in the settings that may periodically purge the cookies.

Well, well, well! Thank you for finding that, Simon. It explains a lot. Looks as if I will have to give up my well-beloved Safari and start cranking up Firefox. Rats.

Safari does have a nice feel to it doesn't it... I don't seem to have those cookie issues using Safari on a PC though... I don't understand a lot of what they talk about at that link because I use a PC.

I have beaten my password forgettery brain by installing Last Pass, a free program that stores all my passwords. I then need to remember only one password each time I log on. This password opens my Last Pass for the session. Then every time I need a password to enable me to log in to my favourite sites (like Rosetalk) Last Pass inserts the required password and I am up in.

How secure is this?
