I found the name for this one, Simon. It's "Cross Current" bought from Granite grove Iris, Bundarra, in 2006.

Yay! I am excited! I found a bud on an Iris that hasn't bloomed before !!! bounce

It's called Faint Praise, pale lilac standards, white falls edged in lilac.

Superstition has a big bunch of buds growing too, but he bloomed last year.

That is exciting, Val.
I just don't know if the ones I transplanted at the wrong time of year, when i moved will do anything this year or not. So i will be jumping for joy too, if I find a bud!

I pinched some plants from a friend who is moving house, I've potted them but they look a bit resentful!
Here's two that opened today,

I'd love to know the name of the top one. Anyone????

I got last year's catalogue from Barry Blyth (Tempo 2) and found 'Luxuriant Lothario' - it's kinda expensive!!! Well... it was last year... the new catalogue is due out in about 2 weeks he said and he was sending me one when it was done. It was $50 per rhizome last year!!! It's really lovely but I can't spend THAT much money on it... might wait a few years for it to become more widely available. There is so many beautiful iris in there though...

Val... lovely iris too... not sure what the first one is (is it a type of Siberian Iris???)... and don't know the name of lovely deep purple one... but can tell you that it is an old one and therefore VERY worthwhile growing and looking after IMO... like heritage roses... I think heritage iris need preserving too

Thanks Simon. I've been searching the Iris sites, and the one that looks most like my little one is Evansia Iris, there's a picture of one called Fairyland which is very similar.

The bearded iris is lovely too. Lovely deep purple.

Simon.......Abbi won't be spending that much on one iris rhizome either!
Mr A. could have a word or two to say if she does! Luxuriant Lothario was special though.

More excitement - more Iris buds on new plants!! I wasn't expecting to get many flowers on the youngest plants, but I'm getting pleasant surprises. There may be even more as some of them are later bloomers Smile

I've also got a first timer about to flower... a large orange one called 'Coral Point'... looking forward to more as the season goes on. The more I learn about them the more interesting they get. I couldn't work out why some of my iris were big plants developing flowers whilst others were small barely shooting plants. My mate said the ones that are large fully leafed out plants at this time of the year are the early ones whilst the small ones are not poorly or diseased.. they are just the late ones... I find that really interesting Hmmmm

I got bored yesterday, not being able to go out in the garden to play. I ordered 5 more Iris from Impressive Irises, their $5 range Embarassed

What's more, hopefully I'm going to the GA show next weekend. Guess what they'll have for sale there? Mexican Wave

I've got buds on one of mine
They were transplanted (against all the rules) in March this year. They were scrubbed to within an inch of their lives with a toothbrush, and completely defoliated..including new foliage just shooting, in order to pass Tasmanian Quarantine inspection, which they did.

I don't think I've lost a single piece that i planted, but to flower this year...that would be amazing. bounce

Watch out for those iris, Val and Simon. They can jump higher and faster than roses sometimes! Laughing

I have now discovered that quite a lot of the ones i bought in NSW are Yarrabee Iris.

For the benefit of all Tasmanian forumites:

Yarrabee have some very reasonably priced iris, and they send only two deliveries per year to Tassie ( to minimise quarantine costs). They deliver at beginning of January and end of March. Delivery cost is $25.

I willl be putting in an order, so if anyone wants to put their order in with mine, you're welcome. I am waiting for a reply from Yarrabee to let me know how many can be sent for the $25 handling fee.
