Research pays off
Very slow site this morning and hanging also.
In my research for another site I have discovered the name of a previously undocumented rose bred by
Alister Clark.
A real thrill I can tell you.
The name of this rose is Quick Sticks-anyone interested in further details can message me.
regards
sandie

Sandie, This sounds like an exciting discovery. What colour is" Quick Sticks" and shape, type, scent and any other details. Where did you find the details (I sound like 20 questions. )Sorry to be so inquisitive but you sounded so thrilled I want to know more about this rose
and I would love to see a picture

Re: Research pays off
That's a great name for a rose too... how does one go about researching an ID like this?

Re: Research pays off
I have to clarify this-I found the NAME of a new A.C. rose-NOT the rose itself.
The rose may be extinct like so many other A.C. roses-or it may be lurking somewhere
waiting for an ID.
Particulars about the rose can be found at http://rosefanatics.com/

Re: Research pays off
A great find, Sandie! Well done! In my 1948 Rose Annual, it's not listed in AC's compilation of released roses. But the list does contain six not listed by Peter Cox - Dorothy Mollison, Fanny Bullivant, John Cronin, Sophie Mackinnon, Sunday Best and Bonnie Doon. Maybe they are in Tom Garnett's "Man of Roses" - a book I don't have.
I've got a found rose now budded and growing well that is a "maybe" AC. From my detailed photos it was independently suggested by some of the "Tea Ladies" and Susan Irvine that it looked more like an AC than anything else. So I'm sending a plant to John Nieuwesteeg this winter. Positive ID is very difficult but the mystery of it all is half the fun!
Good luck in your research.

Re: Research pays off
Dave, I think Simon has just purchased that book from overseas, he might be able to help you out. Not sure when his school project will let him near the forum or you could PM him yourself.

Hi Dave-I would be really interested in seeing pics of your rose.
I don't have Susan Irvine's book either-a very large oversight LOL!

Re: Research pays off
Sandie I'll send you a PM. I haven't got time at the moment to figure out posting pics here. I'll have to ring Simon after he's spent all that loot! And I'll be in Europe next month taking more than "few" rose pics lol

Re: Research pays off
'Quick-Sticks' (sounds like a climber doesn't it
), isn't in 'A Man of Roses'. If anyone would like a copy of all the AC roses listed let me know as there are some on the list that are not on HMF.

Re: Research pays off
Simon I would love a full list of all AC roses.
Sandie, did you get my pm?
David, you're all invited to jump in my bag, as long as you pay the excess LOL
Itinerary not finalised yet, (I'm accompanying my elderly uncle to the UK) But on the short list: Mottisfont, Sissinghurst, Roserie de L'Hay (Paris) and Stockholm. Only got 2 weks max.

Re: Research pays off
How could I forget Uncle Dave Austin at Albrighton? He's only only a short drive away from where I'm staying. This will be my second lucky visit to his glorious gardens. There was a large new walled garden just planted when i was there a few years ago. Will be interesting to see the growth. Please place your orders now for the new releases LOL!
