HONORINE de BRABRANT???

Has anyone grown Honorine de Brabant (Bourbon... see here: http://helpmefind.com/plant/pl.php?n=1896&tab=1) that could give a run down of the variety in terms of final size, does it set hips, hardiness, vigour, health etc?

Yes I have it growing as a own root that I got from Lynnete's. I will ask your questions of this plant to her, today or tomorrow.

I'm sorry Simon, I will talk to her soon. I will sent you some cuttings so you can see for yourself, if you want, as well. Also I will take a Winter photo my bush of it and Lynettes one to post here. I will be going to her garden in a day or so.

I was speaking to Lynette on the phone and she said Honorine de Brabant is about head high. She thinks it doesn't have alot of hips. When
I go there soon I will get a photo of her mature bush.

Hi Simon-I grow HdB.
She is essentially a once bloomer here-few if any repeat blooms.
I grow her as a climber along with Kathleen Harrop.
She goes to around 3 to 4 metres.
Fairly vigorous but prone to occasional mildew and blackspot.
Blooms are simply gorgeous-no two alike.
Mine is on a south wall so only gets late afternoon sun which may account
for disease probs and maybe lack of seconday blooms.

Thanks Sandie... have you ever noticed any OP hips forming on it (that escape your dead-heading)? It has been mentioned it might be a worthwhile parent to consider when thinking of developing seedlings with [tasteful] stripes.

I finally got to check yesterday and yes-she does have hips.

My 2 year old Honorine de Brabant is growing on its own roots too, if that also makes it a better parent if it passes on that to its offspring.
Wow Sandie, 3 or 4 mtrs, that must look spectacular when its in bloom. I am glad I have my one planted on the line where I have the poles.

Karen... I planted the HdB you sent me in the new 'Tea Garden' (which now isn't a Tea only garden... more a shrub rose garden). It's on a sloping section with 10ft around it to spread. I checked it this morning and it is now beginning to shoot all over it. I expect it won't flower this year but I also expect it will grow up to 20-30 new stems this year judging by the number of new shoots appearing I'll clear the last lot of grass around it tomorrow and through the week purchase another trailer load of mulch to put around it and it should take off

Thats great Simon ! It sure likes it down there with you. I missed your post above or forgot to post a answer. How is the Fourtune's Double Yellow going ?
I lost the multiflora own roots you sent me, just too dry here for them. But latter you were worried about one of them having Mosiac virus, anyway, weren't you ? Two of the Pax are still alive, they lost their leaves because of there were a few grass hoppers up around there or because of the heat. But I am keeping the water up to them.
