They include mons tillier, marie van Houtte, e.Veyrat Hermanos, mme Lombard, maman Cochet,Duchesse de brabant,

clb devoniensis, clb Lady Hillingdon, and Sombrieull, although I suspect the latter is really a Wichurian type as is often found.

However the Tea rose I am really excited about, has just arrived at the nursery,I have never ...

This is an embryo that I excised from the seed of an open pollinated 'Altissimo' seed. I'm just practicing still (hence using OP seeds to practice on) but basically if you remove the embryo and place it in a ziplock plastic bag on a few sheets of moist paper towel it will germinate in just a few days. I did this one on Thursday night, straight from the and old hip in the garden, and you can already see the radicle starting to emerge from the embryo. You sit it in a warm light place out ...

Hi all. I am hoping someone can set me straight on reading and writing a rose's breeding "pedigree" for want of a better term.

I am used to reading stud papers for horses etc , and they are written along the lines of :

By such and such , out of so and so . I assumed that it was the same for roses but something that I read last night [and I was reading everywhere , my head's still spinning ] made me think that I have it the wrong way around . Roses have it as the female [seed parent] ...

Some intersting points have been raised in another section of this forum that I would like to explore further. Following is my thoughts on the whole thing... they are fairly random...

Lots of people around the world have looked at the problem of growing roses for warm climates and have approached it in different ways. Many have taken the line of using hybrid tea roses that seem to do well in warm climates (such as Mr Lincoln) and crossing them with species roses from warm climates such as ...

- Mme Isaac Pereire

Hi all . Just asking about potting on rose seedlings . Does anyone have a preferred time/stage to do it . I have this pot of 4 seedlings from an OP Soaring Spirits hip . One is still at the seedling leaf stage but the others have their true leaves now. I am thinking about potting the larger ones now ; just wondering if this is too premature or over due .

The cuttings were wrapped in newpaper so that the cuttings were encased in it and then the newspaper and cuttigns were placed inside a plastic bag which was then sealed. Sealing ...

How fresh does it have to be? Does it go "off" in hours, days or weeks?

What actually happens to it when it goes stale?

I think the directions on the product are incomplete without having a time limit to explain "fresh".

I thought I'd start a new topic on this rather than just post a reply! Old rose bed syndrome is something I'm going to experiment with. Last week I removed a rose plant where the scion and died and the graft had grown - I didn't know what the stock was. The plant had apparently been in the ground for at least 40 yrs according to the previous house owners, and it wasn't in very good condition; and, I took out Paul's Scarlet Climber that was very weak. Also I don't know the stock.

I got home tonight to find a 4th 'Angel Wings' seedling up (& an OP 'Queen Elizabeth' seedling) so I thought I might as well begin to show you all how they progress (assuming anyone cares LOL). The seeds were bought off eBay last December & kept in the fridge for a month before sowing. The first seedling took 24 days to germinate & one has popped up about every 2 weeks since. They are strong little things & the first now has a cluster of little buds on it:

Its pollen parent; 'Dainty Maid', is remontant and remontancy is recessive, which means CS is carrying remontancy but not showing it. I would like to do CS x CS to see if a repeat flowering version of CS could be made. I think this might be of use down the track because it would be diploid and ...
